Especially if you are carrying a lot of expensive equipment with you, the safest and fastest way to get from the airport into Phnom Penh is taxi. What is handy for new arrivals is that all drivers seem to be able to speak English as well. There will be a line of official taxis waiting if after leaving the arrival hall, you immediately walk to the curb. Depending on which area of town you are headed to, the official fee for a taxi into Phnom Penh is about $9 or $12 and you will get a ticket saying the price before getting into the taxi.

There is no extra fee for additional baggage and passengers, so you do not need to pay more than the price shown on the yellow ticket. Even though they will try to tell you there is if you insist on paying the exact $9 fee to the Riverside, there is no additional fee for driving at rush hour or at night. Although tipping is not a must, especially if the driver helps with your baggage, a small tip will be appreciated.

Tuk tuk from Phnom Penh Airport

Tuk tuks are also available for the set price of about $7, within the grounds of the airport. Walking directly outside the airport gates and taking tuk tuks into town for about $5 (depending on how far away you are looking to go and your negotiation skills) is an effective way to save some money. As a point of reference, in spite of what your guesthouse might tell you, it should cost you for $5 or $6 to get back to the airport from Phnom Penh.

The first time landing in Cambodia, when you have no idea what you are getting yourself into and the bumpy, breezy tuk tuk ride will be wonderful and eye-opening. Involving all of the senses, a tul tuk journey is certainly one of the best ways to explore Phnom Penh for the first time, even if it takes you a bit longer to drive by tuk tuk than in a taxi. However, when being in a tuk tuk, do not forget to keep your bag under your feet and take care of your belongings if possible. Cambodia travel tours

It costs you around $2 to take motors available outside the airport gates. Hold your bag between yourself or ask the driver to hold it up in front of you and do not wear it on your back. Especially be careful when you put your bag down to pay for your transport or on motors as new arrivals are easy targets for bag snatchers.
