Enjoying a journey from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap by bus will be an interesting experience to observe Cambodian’s country life with traditional wooden houses, rice paddies, and buffalos and cows on the side of the road. Many bus companies are providing the service between these two cities. Some are old and too crowded, but inexpensive (about $6). So, to make your journey more comfortable and safer, I recommend that you should choose Mekong Express and Giant Ibis. The ticket on Mekong Express for locals is $10 and $13 for foreigners while Giant Ibis’s ticket is $15 for all passengers. In case that you want to have a comfortable seat, try booking online in advance and pay for an extra $1. Indochina tours Cambodia
Where to buy the ticket?
It’s not difficult to get the tickets from any tour company around Phnom Penh. Travelers get enthusiastic support from their hotel for purchasing the tickets as well. In my opinion, you should book tickets online because you can select your favorite seat, and never worry about running out of tickets. Try accessing BookMeBus to scout around for the tickets from Mekong Express or Giant Ibis. And remember to add $1 to each ticket for booking in advance.
Find another option – Mini-bus
Traveling by mini-bus will cut your journey short by at least 30 minutes than the bus. Similar to the bus, travelers can find loads of companies offering mini-buses. The first option is Seila Angkor. It’s a popular company that has 18 departures every day. However, the price is quite high (about $11-13/passenger). However, my favorite mini-bus is Cambodia Post VIP Van because the price is quite inexpensive ($8), and the bus is not overcrowded (just 13 passengers at a time). With two departures at 7.30 am and 2 pm, consider your plan and choose one.
With a solid standing and safeness, Mekong Express is quite popular for most travelers. In case that you want to take a night bus, Giant Ibis will be your ideal choice. For both directions from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap and vice versa at 10.30 pm, 11 pm, and 11.30 pm, pick up one and go. Especially, Giant Ibis also offers Wifi and power outlets along the way. Here are operating hours of two bus companies that you should consult to choose the most convenient one. Cambodia Discovery
