Koh Ta Kiev, a delightful little island, is something of a black hole for backpacker bungalows. The island is home to only a small fishing community and a handful of beach huts, tree houses and tents that provide the accommodation options available to visiting tourists. Indochina tours Cambodia

Koh Ta Kiev is on the itinerary of many of the day trips and island tours that leave from the beach town. Few people stay overnight on the island though, which is a shame because it’s beautiful and has a few easily accessible beaches.

Actvities on the island include trekking, archery and cooking classes while on and in the water apart from swimming there is snorkeling, rod fishing, speargun fishing and kayaking. Visitors can take a distillery tour that covers the entire process, from the wormwood that gives absinthe its reputed psychoactive properties to fermentation and bottling, plus the history of the oft-forbidden beverage. The secluded beaches of Koh Ta Kiev are probably the last place you’d expect to find an absinthe bar, let alone a distillery. Three lovely yellow-sand beaches shaded by pine trees are accessible on the island, and coral reefs make for excellent snorkelling. The pine needles make this long sandy stretch of sand seem less ‘pure’ than it might otherwise feel, and the tide comes in high so it isn’t all that wide either.  Snorkellers will also get their fill, and can see giant mussels that aren’t found at all of the other islands.

It is said that the island is inhabited by carnivorous pitcher plants, if you’re feeling adventurous and would like to do a bit of wildlife-spotting, trekking through the jungles is not a bad idea. Bird watchers will be happy to hear that more than 150 species call Koh Ta Kiev home.

If you don’t mind roughing it out for a few days and really want to unwind and take in the beauty of this island with its soothing sounds from the jungle, crashing waves and gorgeous sunsets, Koh Ta Kiev Island is the ideal place to do it.
