Being home to many souvenir stalls, the Old Market in the center of town is where you can find the locals’ setting up of a food market inside selling dried spices, meats and fresh produce, after stepping off the street in the morning from Street 9 side. Not until the new market got built several years ago did the market use to be the main hub of vegetables and fruit. You can also find a selection of small eateries that offer local food for sale outside on Street 9. If you want to pick up some fruit or even some dried peanuts and mango for your day trip out to the temples, this is a great place.

Phsar Leu Thom Thmey, New Upper Market
Since the old market is now overrun with souvenir shops and tourists, the New Market, which is busy all day long, is now where all the locals go to shop for their food. There are a few good places to eat and get a bowl of delicious soup on the other side of the street. You can find anything you may need from vegetables and fruit to fish and meats as well as dried goods (noodles, biscuits and lollipops), shoes, herbal medicines and a jewelry section inside the market.
These markets, like most markets, are at their busiest point in the morning. Coming here at that time, you will feel like having been caught up in the crowd. You will find that the Khmer people are very relaxed about life throughout your stay here. To see how the locals live and shop, they are great places.
In every Cambodian meal, rice is the staple food served. You can find a number of rice paddies with numerous varieties of local rice around Siem Reap. You must try the local sticky rice if you have a sweet tooth. On the road side on the way to Beng Melea, there are numerous stalls to stop at with a variety of choices are black bean, mango together with mango and black bean. Your car will be filled with the coconut sweet rice and the small of the bamboo, which may charge $1 each tourist.
