Having a tropical monsoon climate, Cambodia climate is divided into two seasons: from late November to April, the dry season when Cambodia has long days of glorious sunshine and clear skies and the rainy season from May to November when the countryside is lush and green. Depending on what you are heading to Cambodia for, the best time to visit Cambodia does vary. For example, the months from December to April when it is nice and warm and dry are the best time for beach-side relaxation by visiting the coastal resort of Sihanoukville. Depending on whether you want to avoid the rain but take on the crowds, between November and March is the best time to visit Angkor Wat, however, if you do not mind a refreshing shower in the afternoon and would prefer less crowds, then the best time for you to travel is from May to October.

Taking place more than three days, the Khmer New Year that marks the end of the harvest season is a massive holiday in Cambodia. Khmer New Year, like neighboring Thailand, is celebrated with water-throwing rituals as well as attending local temples and enormous feasts held.
Cambodian Independence Day
Cambodian Independence Day is a national holiday held on the 9th November each year, seeing a large number of Cambodians go to the capital city of Phnom Penh to watch colorful parades and wonderful firework displays. Although in order to celebrate Cambodia’s independence from France, they hold such celebrations all over the country, Phnom Penh is the best place to join in the festival.

Marking the reversing flow of Tonle Sap River and welcoming the fishing season with boat races and concerts, the Water festival has the largest celebrations taking place in Phnom Penh for more than three days. During the time of the festival, in the evenings, you can see large fireworks displays on the banks of Tonle Sap.
