Being a wild, low population density area of Cambodia, Mondulkiri is spotted with rolling hills, jungle forests, towering waterfalls, and valleys. Visiting this region, you can see some of the most rare and endangered wildlife of this country such as water buffalo, leopards and elephants. The Bunong minority group occupies almost half of Mondulkiri’s population, who hunt to meet the demands of their food supply. If you want to visit the traditional villages and interact with elephants in their natural habitat, it is such a fantastic region. The pleasant climate, spectacular landscapes and stunning wildlife-watching opportunities make it an ideal area for trekking and hiking experiences.

Popokvil Waterfall

Situated in Bokor National Park, Popokvil Waterfall is a spectacular two-tiered waterfall, which looks especially magnificent during the month of rainy season. Even though the outside of the surrounding rainforest has been somewhat deformed by the setting up of an enormous casino on the hill top, the area is still quite lovely. An expression meaning ‘swirling clouds’, maybe about the ever-present fog that surrounds it, is the origin of the name of the waterfall. It is such an ideal destination, where you can stop for a refreshing swim and, even more fortunately, you will have a close look into the threatened animals existing in the area including the pig-tailed macaque and the Malayan sun bear.
