Discover the beauty of Koh Rong Island, Cambodia

Located two and a half hours from the mainland, Koh Rong is a true island paradise with pristine white beaches and turquoise water. It is quite possibly that cliched island paradise you’ve been looking for, boasting pristine white beaches, turquoise water and limited development on most of the island. If you want a break, a different side of Cambodia, or simply to escape the hustle and bustle of life backpacking Asia for a few days then pencil it in. Indochina travel

It is full of diving, snorkeling and jungle trekking opportunities. But above all the best attraction is the phosphorescent water which sparkles when disturbed like twinkling stars. There’s enough to keep even the most active visitor busy, with diving, snorkeling, mountain biking, trekking, kayaks and motorbike treks, and plenty of sand, sun and sea for those with more relaxed tastes.

The interior is almost entirely covered in dense jungle. The coastline is characterized by a succession of sandstone rock formations and beautiful beaches. There are three yellow sand beaches at the island’s long western coast. Its eastern side, facing towards the mainland and less exposed to the weather and the monsoon is characterized by bays and headlands. A very attractive feature is the crescent shaped Saracen Beach bay with an inner diameter of around 3 kilometers. Travel to Cambodia

One of the biggest draws of Koh Rong is the lack of electricity – it’s like a forced detox from modern day life! Solar power means the bungalows have electricity almost all day – a rarity on the islands – although there’s no reason to spend much time indoors when there are beaches littered with exotic shells, a coral reef ripe for snorkeling, and more than a hundred species of rare birds to observe.

For years the island was almost completely undeveloped save for a diving outfit and a few bungalows, though that’s changing, in particular on the southern patch Koh Touch. That general laid back vibe oozes across the whole places – lazy hammock days, snorkeling and swimming in the sea is the order of the day. Top up your tan, read a book – or simply enjoy doing nothing!

Unlike the other accommodations on Koh Rong, nightly guests are more likely to relax with a glass of wine than a local beer. The bungalows are simple and straightforward, but guests tend to spend very little time inside of them, choosing instead to lounge in the restaurant, float in the water, walk its sandy beaches or read in the hammock on the front porch of their bungalow.

By midnight you’re either heading to bed after a relaxing evening or stripping down for some skinny dipping carnage if the mojitos have been flowing!

Koh Rong Island is an inexpensive, unspoiled island getaway with turquoise-green waters, miles of powder-white beaches, endless palm trees, untouched fishing villages and only a handful of beachfront bungalows.
